Get Moving Community Challenge

Get Moving Community Challenge

Once again, it’s time to get moving for a healthier you and a healthier community!  The 8 week challenge to increase your physical activity will kick-off on April 15 11:30 am- 1:00 pm at Millennium Park in conjunction with Danville Schools 10,000 Step Day. The challenge is free and is open to all ages and fitness levels. The only thing participants need to do is track their minutes of physical activity and submit them via email, fax or in person to McDowell Wellness Center each week of the challenge. Each week there are prize drawings from among those who submit their minutes. These prizes are donated by area businesses. Everyone who completes the challenge with at least 7 weeks of activity minutes will receive a free Get Moving t-shirt thanks to our t-shirt sponsors. There will also be grand prize drawings from among these challenge completers.

You may participate as an individual or on a team. The main purpose of the team is to support and encourage each other.  Get Moving newsletters are emailed to participants or they may picked up at McDowell Wellness Center each week of the challenge. These include challenge updates, events, exercise tips and other health information. We also announce prize winners each week and post these on the Ephraim McDowell Health facebook page.

This spring we are coordinating a Walk with the Doc. This is a series of group walks open to all that will be held on Sundays at 4:00 pm. One of our local doctors will give a brief (5 minute) educational or motivational talk and then initiate a 2-3 mile walk that participants may complete at their own pace. Walks will be held on our local trails. This is a great way to meet others in the community and get your minutes in. There will also be a special prize for all who complete at least 6 of the walks.

If you want to lose weight, we also invite you to join our Thin It to Win It Challenge. This is a 7 month weight loss challenge that starts at the beginning of the spring challenge and ends at the end of the fall challenge in November. There are 7 required weigh-ins at McDowell Wellness Center and then participants submit their own weights each week of the Get Moving Challenge. Participants will also receive an additional newsletter with diet and exercise advice. Top weight losers are awarded with great prizes at the end of the challenge.

If you want to participate in the Get Moving Challenge, you can pick up a registration form at any of the following locations: McDowell Wellness Center, Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital, Danville Bike & Footwear, Hibbett Sports, Bunny Davis Recreation Complex, or the Ephraim McDowell Health website emhealth.org. Turn your completed registration form into McDowell Wellness Center where you can also obtain the Get Moving Challenge packet with instructions, log, etc. You may also turn in your registration and pick up your packet at the kick-off event.
