- Be at least 21 years of age
- Have a valid Kentucky drivers license
- High school diploma or GED
- If prior military service, must have received an honorable discharge.
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must not be prohibited by federal or state law from possessing a firearm
You must successfully complete:
- A complete background investigation
- A drug screen test
- An interview
- A physical fitness test (POPS standards)
- A polygraph examination
- A written test
- Certified Officers are exempt from portions of this process
- Accumulation of sick and vacation time from year to year
- Hazardous duty retirement (CERS)
- 3 weeks paid vacation every year
- All equipment and uniforms are provided by the department.
