Danville Police make arrest in Scam Case

Danville Police launched an investigation into an ongoing scam that targeted a Danville resident.  Scammers were able to convince the victim that their bank account had been compromised.  The scammers represented themselves as bank employees trying to assist the victim in transferring their assets into a secure account.  The victim in this case completed multiple transactions with the suspects, this included two hand to hand cash transactions.  Danville Police determined that the victim had suffered a loss of over $100,000 dollars.  During the investigation Danville Police were able to set up a controlled transaction with the suspects.  The controlled transaction took place on Wednesday May 24th.   Two suspects arrived at a predetermined location, believing they were meeting with the victim to receive cash.  Upon their arrival, both were taken into custody without incident.  Arrested were Lan Unwei, 29 of Philadelphia, and Yong Fu Li, 42, of New York.  Both have been lodged in the Boyle County Detention Center and charged with Theft by Deception $10,000 or more.  The investigation is on-going and is being conducted by Detective Paul Megilligan.
