1. How does the City determine the order in which it clears snow from streets?

The City prioritizes hills, high traffic areas and streets providing access to the hospital. Drivers then proceed to plow the remaining City streets using predetermined routes to optimize time.

2. Does the City plow all streets?

All City-maintained streets are plowed during heavy snow events.  The City does not remove snow on State routes which can usually be identified by having a number such as Perryville Road (U.S. 150).

3. Who determines when snow plows are deployed?

The City Public Works Department in conjunction with Danville 911 and Danville Police will determine when conditions require treatment.

4. How long does it take to treat the entire City?

It takes approximately 4 hours for City plows to complete one pass through the entire City depending on storm severity and equipment.

5. How many trucks are utilized?

The City utilizes 6 trucks equipped with plows and salt boxes.

6. How much salt does the City use?

The City uses approximately 50 tons of salt per storm event.  This typically amounts to approximately 800 tons per year.

7. How much salt can the City store?

The City can store approximately 300 tons in the salt storage building off of South Second Street.  This is enough to cover 5-6 storm events.
