Project Description:
The City of Danville's wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) is a regional facility that serves Danville, Northpoint Training Center, the Lincoln County Sanitation District and the Mercer County Sanitation District. The original WWTP, constructed in 1981 and upgraded in 1998, had a design capacity of 6.5 million gallons per day (MGD). As the City and service area continued to grow, the WWTP also needed to grow, improve and expand capacity to continue to meet KPDES Permit Limits.
The City completed a Wastewater System Evaluation Study in June of 2018. The Study identified three major problem areas at the WWTP that needed to be addressed as part of this project: lack of adequate screening, sludge handling, and a failing UV disinfection system.
In June 2021, the City of Danville invested in Wastewater Treatment Improvements Phase 1 including demolition of some existing structures, screening improvements, ultraviolet disinfection system, solids dewatering facilities, piping, control/operations building, and various instrumentation improvements.
Phase 1 is now complete. City of Danville will look to advertise the Phase 2 pending funding availability. Phase 2 will expand the facility by adding a new Oxidation Ditch and two new clarifiers to increase the plant’s capacity to 9.0 MGD. Construction of the clarifiers will require demolition of the old Operations/Control building. The proposed improvements would include: mechanical screening facilities, a new oxidation ditch, extended aeration treatment, new clarifiers (2), flow splitter, electrical connections, associated piping, and SCADA improvements. Phase 2 will provide valuable capacity to enable City of Danville to attract industry and plan for the future economically.

Project Description:
Water tank painting is a crucial step in extending the life of a water tank, preventing corrosion, and maintaining water quality. The tank on "tower hill" (behind Chick-fil-A) was cleaned and painting, inside and out, as part of a regular maintenance schedule of the City of Danville Municipal Utilities' tanks.
This particular tank holds approximately 3 million gallons of water. In the City of Danville's water distribution system, water is pumped directly from the water treatment plant to residences and businesses. Any unused water will pass through to these storage tanks, like the one on tower hill. When pumps require maintenance, or when all the needs in the water system have been met, the reserves in the tank supply water to the surrounding area and the elevation of the tank allows for adequate pressure for the end users
