COVID-19 Victims Memorial Day in Danville

The first Monday in March has been designated as the COVID-19 Victims Memorial Day.

On Monday, March 4th, the Danville-Boyle County community came together to remember the 181 lives lost in Boyle County due to Covid-19. A white dogwood tree has been planted in Constitution Square (behind the old post office) dedicated to the victims of the virus.

During the memorial service, Danville Mayor J.H. Atkins was joined by Boyle County Health Department Director, Brent Blevins, Boyle County Judge Executive, Trille Bottom, City Commissioner, Jennie Hollon, VP of Community Engagement with Ephraim McDowell Health, Libby Mayes, and Ephraim McDowell Volunteer Chaplain, and owner of Walden Funeral Home, David Walden, honoring lost loved ones and bringing a message of encouragement as our community moves forward. Those in attendance had the opportunity to speak the names of family and friends who were lost to COVID-19 and a moment of silence was shared.
