Danville's 4th of July Celebration was bigger than ever!

Danville's fireworks show has always attracted a big crowd and 2024 was no exception.

This year, the Danville-Boyle County Parks & Recreation Department kicked it up a notch with a full day of fun events on the 4th of July! Here's the recap...

  • Several new events and competitions were added this year including, "Paint the Park", an opportunity for the Danville-Boyle County Parks & Recreation Day Campers to put their mark on the celebration, or at least in the parking lot! They did a great job. This event was sponsored by Ace Hardware of Danville. Next year, the team is looking to extend this event to the public!
  • The first 4th of July Homerun Derby for Kids was held, and it was a big success! 15 participants signed up to compete. Congratulations to winners Tate Webb, T. Davis, and Karson Emmons! Thank you to Hibbett Sports for sponsoring gift card prizes for the winners!
  • The Great American Brass Band Festival was set to host their free summer concert series "Downtown Downbeat" with the Lexington Concert Band and JD Shelburne at the park but, unfortunately, the threat of storms prompted its cancellation. We will certainly plan for a big performance next year!
  • With bounce houses, face painting and food trucks, there was a little something for everyone to enjoy, and a 14-team cornhole tournament ended with Tyrek Bradshaw and Christian Hill as champions. What a day!

Of course, the fireworks show was a big hit, and it would not have been made possible without the contributions of the Boyle County Fiscal Court, Danville-Boyle County Parks & Recreation, Danville Police Department, City of Danville Fire Department and volunteers.

Thank you to all who joined the celebration. We're already looking forward to what July 4th, 2025 will bring!
