#Still Serving: Local VFW Post 3634
The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) organization has been serving Veterans for over 125 years. They have advocated for benefits, provided countless resources and connected generations of Veterans who continue to serve their own communities long after they hang up their boots. The local VFW Post 3634 in Danville is no different. Their dedication to serving Veterans, and civilians alike, is unmatched.
VFW Post 3634 has been active in Danville since 1946 and welcomes qualified Veterans to join their ranks as they work to support local veterans and educate the community on the important issues that face our nation's heroes every day. Qualified family members may also be accepted into the VFW Post 3634 Auxiliary. The VFW Post 3634 is located at 1183 Stanford Rd.
Under the leadership of Post Commander, Donnie Conatser, the Post 3634 has been focused on community outreach, and helping the people of Danville in the ways they can. Here are just a few:
- They are working with the schools through the Patriot's Pen and Voices of Democracy contests, challenging students to dig deeper in their understanding of what it means to serve your country.
- They have participated in many Veteran's Day programs and held the annual Veteran's Appreciation Lunch alongside Heritage Hospice.
- Through the Adopt a Unit initiative, the group provides support to the National Guard 617th MP Company, serving them a "Family Christmas Dinner".
- The Post also participated in the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program, "adopting" 50 children and making their Christmas wishes come true.
- As partners in our community, the post holds an annual City/County Lunch, serving employees of local governments with lunch and a little rest during the holidays. This year, the post awarded two Public Servant Awards to City Employees, City of Danville Fire Department's Deputy Chief, Mike Mulholland, and Danville Police Department's Officer Andy Ferguson, in recognition of their service to our community.
Now, on December 14th, the VFW Post is inviting you to participate in Wreaths Across America Day. The Post has sponsored wreaths to be placed at the graves of Veterans through the Wreaths Across America organization. On Saturday, December 14th, around 350 wreaths will be hung at Danville's National Cemetery inside Bellevue Cemetery at 377 N First Street at Noon. Please join VFW Post 3634 for this occasion.
