The Danville City Commission approved the installation of a Safe Haven Baby Box. The Safe Have Baby Box organization provides “baby boxes” to communities in order to prevent unsafe infant surrender, and provide ongoing support for mothers and caregivers that may not feel able to care for their infant.
Danville’s “baby box” will be installed at Danville Fire Station 2 at 101 Fireside Drive, off the bypass. The box will be monitored 24/7 - 365 days a year, and contains sensors that alert first responders to weight changes in the box. The box will also administer resources and materials, including information for the Safe Haven crisis line, for those who have courageously surrendered a child for that child's well-being. The box is currently being fabricated and is expected to be installed this year. The City of Danville will provide more information as the box is installed and it becomes a resource for Danville and surrounding communities.
