[ARCHIVED] City of Danville to receive federal grant supporting Lebanon Road/Clarks Run Project

Danville

Senator McConnell announces federal grant to be awarded to the City of Danville in support of infrastructure improvements

The City of Danville will receive a $1,996,505 grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) to support Phase II of the Lebanon Road/Clarks Run Sanitary Sewer Improvements Project.

The City of Danville couldn’t be more pleased to see this grant announcement. Significant improvements to Danville’s existing water and wastewater infrastructure are already underway, and today’s federal funding will help ensure we can continue this great work. We are grateful for the support of Senator McConnell, and the special focus he gives to economic development in this region of Kentucky,” said Danville Mayor James Atkins.

The Phase 1 project, recently completed, committed more than $3.2 Million of local funding toward sanitary sewer improvements in the area, demonstrating the City of Danville’s commitment to providing enhanced sanitary sewer infrastructure. The project effectively provides a long-term solution for existing, and future development in the industrial park area, southern parts of the City, and strengthens the City’s ability to maintain regulatory compliance into the future.  This project will provide significant benefit to the City of Danville and Boyle County in its efforts to both retain and attract industry.

The Lebanon Road / Clarks Run Sanitary Sewer Improvements Phase II will replace nearly 9,500 linear feet of trunk sanitary line sewers, many of which are within the 100-year floodplain of Clarks Run, making them susceptible to high rates of inflow and infiltration (I/I).

Effectively serving the needs of industrial customers along Clarks Run, which includes manufacturers such as Parker-Meggitt, Adkev Inc., Wilderness Trail Distillery, and many others, and supporting potential future developments, are just a few of the many benefits to the project.   Parker-Meggitt, alone, recently made a capital investment of over $82 million, in expanding their facility, with future anticipated investment and job growth of approximately $230 million and approximately 275 jobs over the next ten years.

This project has been supported by various community and governmental agencies including the City of Danville’s Commission, Boyle County Industrial Foundation, Centre College, and various Industrial entities along the project corridor. The City of Danville Commission and Mayor’s Office have provided support by authorizing an official resolution to pursue this grant and they will continue to monitor and evaluate progress. The Boyle County Industrial Foundation and Industrial Leadership along Clark’s Run basin continue to support this initiative with public and written support as this project will provide critical capacity needs to further economic growth for the City as a whole.  Centre College has partnered with City of Danville in evaluating sources of Inflow and Infiltration along Clark’s Run watershed in efforts to minimize environmental impacts and develop mitigation strategies to preserve its natural integrity.

With the announcement of federal funding, and community support, the City of Danville expects to begin Phase 2 of the Lebanon Road/Clarks Run Sanitary Sewer Improvements in the Spring of 2024 with the goal of completion by Summer 2025.
